The 2nd Comenius mobility

Dear all,

I would like to inform you about the second Comenius mobility within the Europen project 2009-2011. It took place in Kuopio, Finland, at Klasikka High School. The people who participated were:

Teachers: Mihai Vitcu, Alina Stoleriu, Oltea Savin
Students: Loredana Cristinaru, Adi Sergiu Loghin, Cristina Bivol, Nicu Agapi, Monica Zimbru

It was an enlightening encounter. We discussed our previous activities and set up the ones to be done in the near future. Also, we took a glimpse of Finnish people, their lifestyles, their language, their food and most importantly, their educational system, which is flawless, by the way.

Klassikka high school impressed us all very much. Almost everybody in Finland speaks English, their school is very clean, the staff very well organized. The Finnish school system is brilliant, that's my opinion. I was astonished by the students' good behaviour, politeness and sensitivity.
Plus, our Finnish hosts offered us the possibility to have sauna. We all tried it, first students (female, then male), then teachers (female, then male). So it was all very well planned and organized.

You should also know that two of our students had to participate in the poetry slam and read out loud the poems they had written back home. The winners were the Spanish students but our students were praized by the other teachers and students as well. The winning poems were measured by the intensity of the public's applause.

Poetry slam / Concurs live de poezie

I'm back again with more information. So, we are going to take 5 students to Finland, for our 2nd project meeting. 3 of our students are going to perform the reading of 2 poems. The first poem is written in our national language, in Romanian and it is going to be read out loud by a very good student, Cristina Bivol, by her name. The title of the poem is .

To my exotic friend, by Cristina Bivol


Dear little Eye Tooth, my very special friend,
You left your crimson cape at my place the other day,
Your eye teeth are still by the bathroom mirror
And you forgot your bottle of vital serum in my fridge, by the way.
My cat miraculously escaped death
Even though its life hanged upon a thread.
By the way… when you eloped with the star of your dreams…
Did she accept you for who you are?
You, sheer perfection,
How could you leave behind so much disappointment?
The sky has been weeping since you left
Which proves that… well… you are willing to give up your habits?
I understand that love is blind…
But who would have expected you to fall in love?!
Nevertheless, can you really give up your vital elements, oh, you… loverboy?
And the waters have been murmuring, moaning; oh… it’s a general heartache around here.
And I’m sitting here, thinking about the moment when I would be able to make you feel complete.
You know… you are my mentor…
By the way… my eye teeth are all grown up.
They’re long, sharp, glossy and very uncomfortable.
Whenever something or someone moves
I shiver and shake, I stare
At the enticing sight of my cat.
I don’t know why but I find that cat extremely tasty nowadays.
I apologize, my dear friend, but
I couldn’t resist the temptation
Of using your cape.
But hey, apologies should be made in person.

Totuşi, poţi renunţa la elementele tale vitale, « iubăreţule » ?
Apropo…când ai plecat cu steaua visurilor tale,
Ea te-a acceptat aşa cum eşti ?
Tu, perfecţiunea întruchipată,

Cerul plânge de la plecarea ta,

Îmi cer scuze dar nu am rezistat tentaţiei de a nu-ţi folosi mantia,

Nu te-am observat de mult pe internet…
Sau te-ai pierdut în legătura soare, apă şi pământ ?
Cum e vremea acolo ? E bine la plajă ?
Dar cu dragostea ?
Iar serul energizant până când rezistă ?

I am going to post the 2nd poem in a short while. I am talking about the Romanian poem which has been written by our brilliant student, Sergiu Adi Loghin and it is going to be performed live in Kuopio, Finland by Sergiu himself and by Loredana Cristinaru. This poem is actually a romantic dialogue between the two and it is written in the key of Mihai Eminescu's poetic style.

The Winter Photography Session

Hello again. Today I am writing about the photos our Romanian students brought for the Winter Photography Session. There are plenty. I am very impressed. Everybody did a good job. Besides, it makes you remember what a beautiful country Romania is :)

About the poetry anthology

As far as our contribution to the Comenius poetry anthology is concerned, I would like to inform you that these five students have chosen six poems belonging to six different poets. The poems must deal with the themes which are also present in the title of the partnership: earth, sea, sky. The students also translated the poems and then commented upon them in a one-page essay each. I as a teacher, was also requested to choose a poem, translate it and comment upon it, too.

Here are the names of the poets and titles of the poems respectively:

1. Odă soarelui / Ode to the Sun de/by Nicolae Labiş (chosen by student Loredana Cristinaru);
2. Înserare marină / Marine twilight de/by Nichita Stănescu (chosen by student Nicu Agapi);
3. Miracol / Miracle de/by Tudor Arghezi (chosen by student Sergiu Adi Loghin);
4. Stelele-n cer / Stars in the Sky de/by Mihai Eminescu (chosen by Monica Zimbru);
5. Furtuna / The Storm de/by George Topîrceanu (chosen by student Sergiu Adi Loghin);
6. Miezul iernii / In the Middle of Winter de/by Vasile Alecsandri (chosen by student Cristina Bivol);
7. Pămantul / The Earth de/by Lucian Blaga (chosen by myself)
I have displayed these poems and commentating essays in school today. I am going to desplay the logos our students came up with.

Also, we have been meeting almost every week; once a week.
I selected the students that are going to represent our school at the Poetry Slam in Finland, at the 2nd Comenius project meeting. The participating Romanian students are: 1. Cristina Bivol with a poem in the English language, 2. Sergiu Adi Loghin and Loredana Cristinaru with a poem in our national language, the Romanian language. We are still working on this activity.
